Taken in the evening twilight of December 1st 2008 this photograph is of the smiley conjunction of the Moon, Venus and Jupiter, as seen from Perth, Western Australia.
This is an up close view of the trio (Moon, Venus – top, Jupiter – right). The illuminated crescent of the moon is brightly exposed showing the smile while the part of the moon in shadow is slightly illuminated by earth-shine.
People find it easy to associate with scenarios such as this where the Moon and bright planets come together in the evening sky, as they are quite common. Usually each year the Moon and in particular Venus but also Jupiter and Saturn will at different times appear close. This occurs in the evening twilight and also in the morning pre-dawn twilight, and depends on the position of he planets and Moon in their orbits.
As with all my prints, these are true long lasting photographic prints, individually prepared and signed by me the photographer. Each print is shipped with care information and identification label for framing
